Last week saw Homefield boys mark Book Week and they were joined by some illustrious faces for the celebrations.
On Monday, Nursery and Reception classes were joined by a very special visitor, namely a bear, who read “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”, the popular children’s story by Michael Rosen. Needless to say that the boys, and indeed the bear, had a fantastic time! A big thank you to Mr Medley for playing the bear so convincingly!
On Wednesday, Homefield welcomed Ian Whybrow, the prolific children’s books writer, who has written over 100 books since his first was published in 1989. Everyone found it thoroughly intriguing to meet Ian and after school, parents and boys purchased signed copies of “Harry and the Dinosaurs”, one of Ian’s most popular books.
The high profile visitors continued on Thursday as Nigel Blackman, the author and illustrator of the Dinotek series, came to talk to the boys in Years 2 and 3. The pupils couldn’t hide their interest as Nigel spoke and no doubt they will all be reading Dinotek books during the half term.
The week was brought to a wonderful conclusion on Friday with Character Day. The children were challenged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and the costumes were fantastic and very imaginative. Book prizes were presented for the best costumes but it was incredibly difficult to choose winners from such a high standard. Thank you to all the boys and staff for taking part.
