Moving to upper school

The transition from the Lower School to the Upper School at Homefield is a carefully managed process which supports each boy's academic and personal development.

Our strong emphasis on pastoral care ensures that students receive the emotional and social support they need during this step up. Form Tutors check in regularly with boys, providing a consistent point of contact for support and guidance. Heads of Year work with the Form Tutors to ensure the wellbeing of the boys is at the heart of the transition process.

The pastoral structure extends further, to ensure all boys receive the care they require. Our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant works with the Head of Inclusion to lead 1:1 and small group sessions for boys who would benefit from extra support as they move to the Upper School. Familiarisation activities, as well as a large focus on collaboration, help our new Upper School boys to feel comfortable and confident in their new environment.

The school meets all requirements for the provision of information, the handling of complaints, risk management, premises and accommodation, health and safety, first aid, equality and the promotion of fundamental British values.

In the Upper School, boys benefit from even more specialist teachers who bring expert knowledge and enthusiasm to their subjects.  Our ethos of 'Heads, Hearts, and Hands' underpins the curriculum to produce well-rounded boys who are exposed to a wide range of academics, sports, and creative arts.

The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to cater to boys' learning styles and interests, encouraging active participation, critical thinking and high levels of challenge. Eight 40-minute lessons ensure that boys' engagement is kept high throughout the day, and a wide range of before-school, lunchtime and after-school activities mean that their enthusiasm is further extended outside their curriculum lessons.
